I always tell my kids I don't want to hear about it if they don't something I told them not to. One day this back-fired. I told my son to go out and play. He said he couldn't because his play shoes were wet. I told him to use his school shoes. My son responded "OK, but if I get them dirty, I don't want to hear about it."
